Festive Things To Do in Whitby During the Holiday Season

The holidays are an exciting time with many opportunities to make memories. And with the kids off school for the holiday break, you’ll need some things to do to keep everyone busy and getting along. Here’s a list of fun things to do with the family in Whitby, Ontario during the holiday season. 

Ice Skating

Is there anything more magical during the holiday season than ice skating? The Iroquois Park Sports Centre and the McKinney Centre both have open skating times during the month of December. You don’t have to be Wayne Gretsky or Kristy Yamaguchi to have a good time, just put on some skates and go. Check out the schedule here and plan a time to hit the ice. 

See the Lights

Enjoy the largest light display in the area with over 100,000 lights throughout town, especially in Whitby Civic Park and Celebration Square. The lights can be viewed each night from 6 to 10 PM throughout the month of December. Check out the new 30 foot lighted tree in Civic Park. Go for a stroll with the kids or have a romantic date night in the park with plenty of atmosphere. 

Donate Toys 

Get in the spirit of giving this holiday season by bringing one or more new, unwrapped toys to the Iroquois Park Sports Centre by December 22nd. Donations will be used to help stuff the Volkswagen Taos that is parked in the lobby. The Salvation Army will distribute the toys to families in need by Christmas. 

Go for a Swim (Indoors) 

The Whitby Civic Recreation Complex pool has been recently renovated and is welcoming swimmers for free through December 31, 2023. Bring the whole family and enjoy a swim in the indoor heated pool to beat the cold this season and let the kids get their energy out. 

Shop Local 

Do your Christmas shopping at your local small businesses to help boost the local economy. Small businesses can earn up to 50% of their entire yearly income during the holidays. Use this list as a guide to local shops and restaurants in Whitby. 

Visit Brooklin 

The nearby town of Brooklin, Ontario offers holiday events as well. Brooklin’s Christmas Cottage is a two-day event held on December 15 and 16, 2023. Children can make holiday crafts, enjoy hot chocolate and other treats, meet Santa, and join a sing-along. This is a special experience for the whole family. Purchase tickets here.
